Seven original water colour drawings for Walter Scott's "The Pirate", by Adolphe Lalauze, 1880-1889
Scope and Contents
Seven original water colour drawings (on six sheets) by Adolphe Lalauze (1838-1905). The drawings were reproduced as wood engravings in Walter Scott's The Pirate, in an edition of the Waverley Novels published in Paris by Firmin-Didot in 1880-1892. This edition of novels was called Walter Scott illustré, and contained 20 volumes, each standing alone and illustrated by different artists. Each volume was heavily illustrated, with our drawings representing just a portion of the total imagery present in The Pirate.
