Scope and Contents

Scrapbook/diary of Ella MacGregor, an Edinburgh University student in the 1920s. It contains handwritten autobiographical accounts and thoughts, cuttings of poems and songs, copies of photographs of people involved in the University's student life (for example, V. K. Mowat, joint editor of the Student 1923-24; John B. Colquhoun, President of the Union; Lilian M. Roger, President of Edinburgh University Unionist Association), of famous people who visited the University (G. K. Chesterton; Sybil Thorndike), and of the band "Yahoo Sextette", composed of members of the University. Also includes autographs of various people linked to the University, collected by Ella, with her comments under each signature. Autographer includes Isabel Scott Moncrieff and A. W. McIntosh. Ten pages of the scrapbook have cuttings relating to University sports event and teams. There are also cuttings relating to Union Debates, and to writer Bruce Marshall, who was a student at the University at the same time as Ella MacGregor.

Very little is known on the author and compiler of the scrapbook / diary. Her name was Ella MacGregor and she was studying Economic History at the University of Edinburgh in the 1920s.
