Page 1 starts with a list of Books taken on Summer Tour, including ‘Prehistoric Archaeology’ 1858, ‘Fuel of the Sun’, ‘Astronomy without Mathematics’, Black’s ‘Atlas’ and Notebooks 256, 211, 210 and 117. Lyell’s group left London on the 4th July, for Derby, then tours the Lake District

Notebook is written by Lyell – scrappy writing and corrections at times – as well as Arabella Buckley – and the index is ordered by date in the form of an itinerary, with page numbers given thereafter. This arrangement has been kept in the transcription, which was created using Transkribus.
