Scope and Contents

Private patient. Occupation: student. Diagnosis: Schizophrenia. On admission patient had fairly clear insight into his condition. He feels that masturbation which he has practised since 15 years old, has a good deal to do with his trouble. He did well at school as far as the academmic side was concerned, but was considered a swpt and he did not play games. He became enamoured with a girl whom he confesses he pestered with unmerciful persistence "till he got the bird". While he was a patient he had auditory hallucinations - heard his parents' voices. When on holiday he became enamoured with a girl and decided to stop masturbation and flirting with other girls. This he found he was unable to do. He has a sense of failure - a feelin gthat he is outside the pals; that his friends have cut him off; that he is a shirker. Sometimes he feels that his thoughts are "blocked".
