Scope and Contents

"Occupations: House duties. Diagnosis: Anxiety state. Home: Good three roomed house - no financial worries. Informant (sister) remembers mother saying that patient was frightened by tramp when she was at school and after that did not like to be alone. This became more noticeable at about 14, 15 patient had panic attacks, would stand and scream if alone at her work. Could not stay out in the fields alone. This phobia has continued throughout her married life. With others she appears perfectly normal - if she thinks she is to be left alone she becomes panic stricken, tearful and emotional. Husband or some grown-up has to accompany her everywhere. Patient is "paralysed" if unaccompanied. This state has become worse during the past year and insomnia has become more marked too in spite of sedatives. She worries about husband going out with somebody else."
