Scope and Contents

"Diagnosis: Defect and Schizophrenia (contributory - diabetes mellitus). Treated for 4 months for diabetes, discharged home and has remained there ever since. He has spent his time pottering about, going for short walks, occasionally going to the market. More recently he has been inclined to be restless at night and won't go to bed; he does not rise until 10 or 11 am. He is not interested in Cinema, radio or the war news but occassionally reads a paper. He is apathetic, not depressed, does not seem to hear voices, does not appear to be deluded. He is inclined to nag and repeat himself a lot e.g. asks his father to buy him hair-cream then repeatedly asks if he has bought it, and again afterwards asks many times if he has paid for it. His temper is a little uncertain, but parents denied that he has been aggressive. Lately he has shortened his walks to aimless wandering. He does not appear to shun people. Sleep varies, talks to himself at nights sometimes. His parents appear to have done everything for him. Still sleeps with a light in his room. Father decent, mother was very over-protective, would never leave him alone."
