Scope and Contents

"Mental disease - AMENTIA (Idiocy - Hydrocephalic) Congenital cataract. Cannot speak or walk. Rolls on floor striking his head. No control of bladder or bowels. Is a danger to himself and the other chilren. Difficult instrumental birth owing to hydrocephalus. Has never walked or tried to speak. This child is a hydrocephalic idiot. Mother has been able to manage him until now but he is too big and strong. He attacks the other children, holding them with his hands, banging them with his head. Is nearly blind. He is unable to preserve himself from injury and frequently gets burned."
