"Sergt. thinks this man is queer; he has one eye and is very odd to look at. He has some cranky ideas, is different from everyone else. His farm is successful because he has very good farm hands to advise him. He drinks a bit if somebody else will pay. Volunteered for the army but turned down because of his eye. a "sumph" - will stand like a fool and look at you. Dr says he is a difficult man - always having rows with his employees. One employee left because after he had plante his potato crop he came and dug them up - said the employee had stolen them."
