Scope and Contents

"Diagnosis: Depressive state. "This patient shows symptoms of depression of moderate severity. It is difficult to say whether his physical illness and the resulting idleness is entirely responsible for his depression or whether the latter is endogenous in origin. His father was treated for melancholia. The patient is loathe to consider admission and I do not think it would be wise to press him at present. I suggest that he should take a sedative regularly (Luminal 1/2 gr to 1 gr., t.i.d) and that he should come to the clinic again within a month or six weeks. He should see his doctor regularly and I am certain that he will beneift from encouragement."
