23.107 Male, Married, 45-54 yrs, Involutional melancholia, June 1946
Scope and Contents
"Diagnosis: Involutional melancholia. "He complains of headache, lasistude and depression. On examination there is a little objective evidence of depression and no retardation. He gives the impression that he is unduly pre-occupied with his health to the exclusion of other interests. His personality appears to be quite a good one and I could elicit no previous evidence of neurotic traits, except a short period during the last war when he was suspected of suffering from "shell shock". I think the condition is a mild involutional depression which should be helped by reassurance and encouragement to revive his former interests. He is convinced himself that his condition is due to the stuffy atmosphere in the place where he works and that he will not be better until he gets a job in the open air. Since this belief is so firmly fixed in his mind, I think a change of employment would be worth while if this could be conveniently arranged"."
