Arrangement

The physical arrangement reflects the inherited arrangement of the material as it was housed in the Outlook Tower. Within each sub-series the material is arranged geographically by area, north to south. Within each folder, the scenes in each area are arranged so that the most northerly places come first, then those in closest proximity to the northern scenes, firstly on the eastern side and the the west; then the scenes to the south, but efforts were always made to put together in the file pictures of places in close proximity to each other. In other cases the principal town came first. Edinburgh is not included in Lothian as these are to be found within the 'Survey of Edinburgh' series (Coll-1167/B).

Processing Information

Within the artworks series (Coll-1167/C/1) all except one item were not located during the 2016-2020 stockcheck. The catalogue content reproduced here is lifted from the legacy catalogue of "The Papers of Professor Sir Patrick Geddes at the Outlook Tower" (1998), the series having been catalogued 1990-1992 by E.C.I. Fortescue at the Outlook Tower on behalf of the then Patrick Geddes Centre for Planning Studies. It has not been possible to establish when the series went missing. When stored at the Outlook Tower, this was, predominantly, housed in drawer 3 of Plan-Chest 3 in the Scotland Room. All of the contents of drawer 4 have been located and are catalogued under the Scenes of Scotland: Photographic Prints series (Coll-1167/C/2). The catalogue descriptions for the artworks are included here for information, and as a record of what was held at the Outlook Tower, and as the series may be uncovered when the remaining Patrick Geddes Centre for Planning Studies and associated records are catalogued in the future.
