Commemoration of the taking of Nyenschantz.
Obverse: bust of Pyotr Alexeyevich Romanov (Peter I of Russia) (Peter the Great) (1672-1725). Legend: PETRUS. ALEXII FIL. D. G. RVSS.IMP. M. DVXMOSCOVIAE.
Reverse: on the right a man is leaning against the wall and holding a key; on the background a map representing the Neva river, Nyenschantz and the Russian artillery attacking it. Legend: SIC MAGNIS CE DIT. Ovid.
Exergue: CASTRVM NOVVM CAPTET DESTE. D. 14 MAI. S. V. Nyenschantz was a Swedish fortress at the mouth of the Neva river. It was taken in 1703 by Peter the Great, and renamed Schlotburg. This Battle occurred in the context of the Great Northern War.
