Scope and Contents

Commemoration of the taking of Lake Peipus.

Obverse: bust of Pyotr Alexeyevich Romanov (Peter I of Russia) (Peter the Great) (1672-1725). Legend: PETRUS. ALEXII FIL. D. G. RVSS.IMP. M. DVXMOSCOVIAE.

Reverse: Peter the Great is leaning onto a shield with the inscription "PORTIS HOSTILIBUS EFFRACTIS"; on the background a map of Dorpat and the Lake Peipus. The Swedish fortress in Dorpat is attacked by the Russian artillery. Legend: ACCIPIT IN MEDIO. Ovid.

Exergue: TORPATVM IN FIDEM RECEPT 14 IUL.S.V. This Battle occurred in the context of the Great Northern War.
