Biographical / Historical
Cecil is most likely referring to the zebra hybrid presented to King Edward VII in 1902 by Lord Kitchener, who had discovered it in the Transvaal during the Boer War. The animal, a cross between a stallion horse and a Burchell's zebra mare, was kept in the Zoological Gardens, London.
