Biographical / Historical

Students from Dunfermline College of Physical Education were selected to represent Britain to perform at the 1949 Lingiad, an international educational gymnastics demonstration and festival, held at Stockholm, Sweden.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Bloomers with white stitching, elasticated leg openings and elasticated at rear of waistband. Four popper fasteners on left hip and hook and eye fastening on left waistband. White cotton band around inside front of waistband and gusset reinforced with white cotton. Manufacturers label on inside front seam, and name label for Lesley Martin in centre rear of waistband.

Sleeveless dress with a wide, slightly pointed neckline, short pleated skirt, Union flag fabric badge sewn to front left side, zip fastener down the back and name label for Lesley Martin sewn into rear of dress to left of zip. Manufacturers label inside hem on left side.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Bloomer fabric worn and repaired, left side of gusset. Some loose stitching on both pleats at front of dress, around 26-30 cms from hem.

Materials Specific Details

Manufactured by Londonus Regd. Super Sportswear. (Makers of sporting clothing and apparel for sports such as tennis and ski-ing, alongside untility clothing). Label also shows a CC41 logo with serial number 1030/2.
