Scope and Contents
Material relating to the Accident Service and Surgical Out-Patients Department (S.O.P.D.), dated 1959-1961. Contains correspondence dealing with the planning of new out-patients department at the Western General Hospital. The correspondence begins with Edinburgh Northern Hospital Group and continues with South-Eastern Regional Hospital Board. It relates to with the distribution of facilities for neuro-surgery, with special reference to out-patients, as between the two major teaching hospitals (Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital). Dott's letter of 19 April 1960 gives a very clear account of his view on the appointment of staff, space and time for inpatient and out-patient work at the two hospitals. A report of the Out-Patient Working Party for Western General Hospital is included. The correspondents are Charles W .A. Falconer, John F. Gillingham, Thomas McWalter Miller, Eric Samuel and Phillip Harris.
