Series of maps and plans which illustrate geological features and strata, including;
1. Hand-drawn map of Etna lava-flows;
2. Large-scale map of Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland, with hand-coloured geological strata;
3. Hand-drawn geological section of Strathmore, Scotland;
4. Hand-drawn plan of a section of the Montrose coast
5. Additional printed maps - Bombay, Dublin.

The arrangement reflects the order in which the series was received from Sotheby's.
Custodial History
This series forms part of the Sir Charles Lyell papers which were transferred to the University of Edinburgh by the executors of the late Charles Lyell, 3rd Baron Lyell, after his death on 11 January 2017 via the UK HM Revenue and Customs Acceptance in Lieu of Inheritance Tax scheme. These papers were retained in private hands by the Lyell Family at Kinnordy House, Angus, Scotland and then briefly in the care of Sotheby's Auction House before their transfer to the University of Edinburgh in 2020.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Accepted in lieu of Inheritance Tax by H M Government and allocated to Edinburgh University Library, 2020.
