Autograph letter signed in full "Walter Scott" to his publisher James Ballantyne, saying that he has "the pleasure to assure you I am well, quite well. I have walked in spite of weather for two hours every day this week to my ... refreshment. I feel no more of my disease ... You will get little more copy till I come in on Monday because I must do something to help Lockhart at his start..." (John Gibson Lockhart, 1794-1854, Biographer and Critic, Editor of the Quarterly Review 1825-1853), and continuing "I am sure you judge of me too correctly to suppose I can be displeased with your very kind and proper remembrances. I have always held your sincerity one of your most valuable qualities..." No date, no place. [1824]

Biographical / Historical
With Professor John Wilson, Lockhart was the mainstay of Blackwood's Magazine. He first met Sir Walter Scott in 1818, married Sir Walter's daughter Sophia in 1820, and wrote the classic life of his father-in-law, 1837-1838.
