Biographical / Historical

Angus McIntosh (1914-2005) was the first Forbes Professor of English Language and General Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, a position that he occupied from 1948 to his retirement in 1979. His research interests included philology and historical linguistics relating to both Middle English and Scots.

This notebook was bought in bookshop in Edinburgh (Westport Books) by Richard Ovenden, who then donated the notebook to Special Collections a few years later.
