Scope and Contents
William Lothian, veterinary surgeon, specialised in contageous diseases of hoof stock. These records relate to his work into controlling the spread of Cattle Plague, Foor and mouth, Anthrax and sheep scab. The records are a combination of notes and forms. 1. Cattle Plague, notes taken of Cattle Plague in the County of Berwick, 1865. Information captured includes the date, particulars of Services and amount paid. There is also notes submitted to the Cattle Plague Enquiry 2. Eight volumes of book of forms, 'returns in accordance with The Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act, 1878', which relate to cases of Foot and Mouth, 1869, in the district of Dunse 3. A volume of forms, 'returns in accordance with the Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act, 1878, of cases of Sheep Scab, Dunse, 1872. 4. A volume of forms, 'returns in accordance with the Contagious Diseases (Animals) Act, 1878, of cases of Anthrax, Lauder, 1892 5. Two complete volumes of forms (not all used, hence the size of the documents) for outbreaks of pleuro-pneumia in 1879 and Anthrax, 1905
