BITS publication issues
Scope and Contents
The first iteration of the BITs publication was the University of Edinburgh Bulletin of IT Services (BITs), published by Computing Services (EUCS) beginning in 1990, a basic monthly bulletin which focused on communications and information technology. From 2000-2005, the Learning Technology Supplement was produced a few times a year to slot into the BITs Bulletin by the Learning Technology Section (LTS) based in the School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (MVM) and the Media and Learning Technology Service (MALTS), advertising the services they offered in the field of learning technology. From around 2005, the formation of Information Services (IS) prompted BITs' evolution into a longer more structured newsletter designed by the Graphic Design Service (GDS) covering news and updates from various departements such as the Library, MALTS and EUCS. In 2011, BITS Magazine was born, with refreshed braning and colourful, eyecatching cover designs, put together by the Graphic Design Service and BITS editorial team. The BITs publication came to an end in Summer 2019.
Editions of the Learning Technology Supplement are catalogued after the series of BITs Newsletter so that they are more easily discoverable, although both publications were produced at the same time between 2000 and 2005.
