The correspondence between Charles Lyell and Edward Hitchcock is mainly concerned with geology, specifically sandstone footprints.   2. 'Prof[essor] Hitchcock rec[eive]d Nov[ember] 21 1860 Footmark sandstone White limestone of H. Virginia'. This letter is concerned with the current geological and academic pursuits of Hitchcock's sons. 30 August 1860.
  3. '(2) Hitchcock Dr. Owen's determination of connectical bone Dec[ember] 1860'. 22 December 1860.
