Scope and Contents
Correspondence consists of:
- Lyell summarises first letter as: Gen. Humphreys to queries on the Missi[ssippi] Delta - 24th June [18]'65. Letter also contains a small diagram and discusses the geology of New Orleans and the presence of types of clay.
- Letter containing a memorandum of sediment papers collected at Carrolton by the Delta Survey in 1851 and reporting in of the results of Lyell's survey of the Mississippi River.
- Letter from Humphreys to Lyell to send him Portales' report on the Mississippi Delta.
- 2 coloured maps of the Mississippi River with annotations in red
