Lyell summarises the letters as:
1) Sorby Jan 19 1856 enclosing speculation of organic clay & sand. Depth of water determined by strata.
2) Sorby June 5 1860, Flint Heterlite at Grennelle (Seine) & Precy Oise with mammoth.
3) Sorby Whether diatonase in chalk.
4) On metanous phison, reference to his paper Brit. Assoc. report. Also contains two small samples of clay in a paper pouch.
5) Quartz crystallize from fusion & metamorphism, Dec 2 1864.
