واقعات شاه شجاع درّانی Vāqiʿāt-i Shāh Shujāʿ Durrānī, undated (c.1825 C.E.)
Scope and Contents
An autobiography by Shāh Shujāʿ al-Mulk, the last Durrānī ruler of Afghanistan (r.1803-09 C.E.), including the events from his ascension to throne at the age of 17, in 1216 AH. (1800 C.E.) to 1241 A.H. (1825-6 C.E.) when from his exile he wrote this work for Mountstuart Elphinstone. The work was published first in 1899 in Ludianah, India, and several times in Afghanistan.
The present manuscript appears to be a holograph copy. Folio 1b. bears an annotation in English reading, "The Memoirs of Shah Shujah al-Mulk, from his accession to the throne of Cabul to his exile at Lodianah. Arabic?? Presented by the Shah to Right Honourable M. Elphinstone."
The main text is written in black ink, in nasta'līq script, with Arabic sentences in naskh. Headings are in red, and red dots seperate sentences, clauses, and some phrases.
The text begins: حمد بیقیاس و سپاس بلا انتهای اساس مر خالقی را سزاست که عالم گوناگون را با . .چندین شیوه و فنون از نهانهانه بطون به پیشگاه ظهور برآورده
The text ends on folio 81b: ابتدا پنج یوم توقف فرموده ره پیمای قصبه لودیانه شده مع الخیر منزل گزین کردیدیم مصرع دست از طلب ندارم تا کام من براید 1239 والسلام
The are some marginal notes that appear largely to repeat the headings. The pages have been trimmed, and, thus, these marginalia partially removed.
