Scope and Contents
This series consists of slides produced by the NDS and used for teaching and for publication. Most of them still have their original boxes / folders.
- Black folder entitled "NDS" on the front and labelled "Designing from Traditional Embroideries" on the spine containing 20 colour slides and 1 title slide. Inside there is a booklet also entitled "Designing from Traditional Embroideries", explaining that "this set of slides illustrates part of an experiment we have been carrying out to show how inspiration for new embroideries can be found in the careful study of traditional specimens", and giving captions for each slide. No date.
- Three of the same black folders, labelled "Designing Embroidery" (folder 1), "Out of the Piece Box" (folder 2), and "Designing with Fabrics" (folder 3). They also contain 20 colour slides and 1 title slide, and a booklet explaining their contents. They all have a brown cover labelled "Interesting old slides from NDS - keep for historical interest". No date.
- Two purpose-made wooden boxes with an "NDS" label containing neatly arranged colour slides (20 slides + 1 title slide). One of the boxes contains a booklet entitled "Designing with Fabrics", with the slides' captions and an introduction: "this set of slides has been produced to show how simple everyday fabrics such as checked gingham, striped and spotted cottons can be the starting point for adventures in design". No date.
- Set of large-scale negatives in brown envelopes (62 envelopes in total). They were sent to publishers for publication. The envelopes are labelled with the works' NDS numbers (such as "NDS T2143"), facilitating the association of negatives with their corresponding NDS items.
