Biographical / Historical
Rutherford recieved his MD from Edinburgh in 1863. He became Professor of Physiology at the university in 1874.
Arthur Conan Doyle studied medicine at the university when Rutherford was lecturing there. Rutherford is part of the inspiration for Doyle's character, Professor Challenger.
