Biographical / Historical

William Smith Greenfield was born in Salisbury on 9 January 1846. He studied at University College, London. Greenfield was a Medical Registrar to St. Thomas 's Hospital, London, 1872-1874, and Demonstrator in Morbid Anatomy and Pathology at St. Thomas's. In 1878 he was Professor of Pathology at the Brown Institute, London University. From 1881 until 1912, he was Emeritus Professor of Pathology and Clinical Medicine at Edinburgh University. Professor William Smith Greenfield died at Juniper Green, Edinburgh, on 12 August 1919.
