Scope and Contents
Jean-Baptiste Descamps (1706-1791), painter and critic, Autograph Letter Signed, 1767, Rouen, about packages transported on ships of the Compagnie des Indes. Letter addressed to Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint Pierre. Deschamps writes to thank him and give him advice on future travels.
Notes by Alfred Stumpff: Handwritten transcription of the letter. Two pages of biographical information, one typed and one handwritten. Typed summary of a different letter from 1770 addressed to Bernardin de Saint-Pierre from Descamps. Library withdrawal slip from the Mainz Stadtbiblioteck indicating that Stumpff borrowed Bernadin de Saint-Pierre's 'Oeuvres completes' on 26 March 1981.
