Georg Friedrich Grotefend (1775-1853), epigraphist and philologist, deciphered cuneiform script, Autograph Letter Signed, 1822.

1 letter: 1 December 1822. Grotefend warns his correspondent against a fraud who travels Europe pretending to be a scholar. He has stolen some artifacts Grotefend had borrowed. He also writes about the difficulty of getting particular books and artifacts. He discusses the numbering of Roman legions under Varus and the identification of plaster casts of Greek statue heads.
