- 18 September 1829, Worthing. Letter from Edward Law (Lord Ellenborough) to Benjamin S. Jones, the then Assistant Secretary of the India Board. Law gives detailed instructions for the content and formatting of 'letters on distinct subjects'. He stresses the importance of these letters and states his intention is to 'bring India as near England as [he] can'. He criticises the old administration of India and hopes to create reforms.
