Eduard Sachau (1845-1930), scholar of Syriac and Middle Eastern traveller, 4 Autograph Letters Signed and 1 Manuscript (“Arabica”, “Syriaca” etc.); addendum.
4 letters, 1 report on the opening of the Seminar for Oriental languages at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin, 1 manuscript document.
- Letter 1: 18 December 1892. Sachau writes to a publisher, agreeing to write a report on how the study of Oriental languages (except Sanskrit, Indo-Germanic, and Hebrew) is taught at German universities.
- Letter 2: 2 September 1889. Sachau asks his correspondent for letters of introduction to ministers and academics in Hamburg, Germany.
- Report: Dated 1888. Written by Sachau, acting director of the institution.
- Letter 3: 28 May 1900. Sachau describes the founding of the Seminar for Oriental languages and its publications since then.
- Letter 4: 4 January 1898. Partially unreadable. Seems to include description of publications, as well as the political situations in the areas Sachau studied in Asia and Africa.
- Document: List of reference books, 15 entitled Arabica, 8 entitled Syriaca, 4 entitled Persica, 1 entitled "Armenish", 5 entitled "Reisen und Geographie" (journeys and geography), 13 entitled "Epigraphisches".
