Pierre Sonnerat (1749-1814), naturalist and traveller, Autograph Letter Signed Pondicherry 1787.

- 16 October 1787, Puducherry. Letter addressed to Mr Galles in Paris. Sonnerat gives updates of recent events in the region, saying that the English feel their position is unstable. He describes the new governor's (Thomas Conway?) arrival and expresses regret at the loss of the previous governor, David Charpentier de Cossigny. He describes some of his travels from the last 15 months around the Ile de France.

Notes by Alfred Stumpff: Handwritten page with alphabetised catalogue of names which appear in the Letter. Each name is accompanied with a brief biographical note. A short description of the letter in French, noting that Pierre Sonnerat was a relative of Pierre Poivre, administrator intendant of l'Ile de France.
