Forty letters, manuscript, 10 September to 15 December 1940, from Leslie G. Cairns, Officer Cadet, Royal Artillery (commissioned into RA, December 1940), and jeweller receipt/invoice for blood-stone signet ring.

Some notable letters include:

  1. Sent on 10 September 1940, Leslie describes that "there was a small invasion", "most came by air and landed, but some tried to land from the sea," and they were ordered to prepare for active service, however everything was "safely over by tea". He also asked that she say "not a word to anybody" about the events he describes here.
  2. Sent on 9 October 1940, Leslie expresses concern over bombing close to Irene at the time. He also mentions a Regimental Order given that day about leave for soldiers whose relatives were injured in air raids.
