Biographical / Historical
From the introduction: "At the death of Adam Smith, his library went by will to David Douglas afterwards Lord Reston. On Lord Reston's death the library was divided between his two daughters, Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. Bannerman. Mrs. Cunningham gave her portion to her son Professor Cunningham, Queen's College, Belfast. After the death of Professor Cunningham the library was sold in 1918 to Messrs Dulau & Co. Ltd., London from whom Dr. I. Nitobe purchased it in July 1920." Signed: Dulay & Co. Ltd. Fw. Chaundy, Director.
