Biographical / Historical

Dryden Mains in Midlothian, Scotland, became occupied by ABRO in 1951 and was primarily used as a Field Laboratory to house small numbers of sheep, particularly Merinos and Wiltshires. Climatological work was carried out at Dryden which was applicable to problems associated with the management and well-being of sheep on hill farms such as Stanhope and Rhydyglafes.Latterly Dryden was used for the more intensive cattle and sheep work which was carried out in association with the Large Animal Unit or surgery unit.In 1986 a pig unit was built to meet the needs of the experimental programme studying the effects of selection on performance.
