Biographical / Historical

Stanhope farm, located in the Scottish Borders, became occupied by ABRO in 1951 and was intended primarily to accommodate breeding experiments with Blackface sheep. The sheep were used for testing the effects of selection, both natural and artificial, on cannon bone length and hairiness of fleece along with other characters affecting survival and productivity in a hard hill environment. Later a small herd of crossbred beef cows were also housed on the farm. By the 1980s, Stanhope was being administered as a subsidiary of Blythbank farm.

Extent
