Biographical / Historical
Pharmaceutical Proteins Holdings plc was formed in 1987 to capitalise on the work being carried out at IAPGR-ERS on commercially valuable proteins, including the work being carried out with transgenic sheep. The company became known as PPL Therapeutics plc in September 1994, with its main operating company, Pharmaceutical Proteins Ltd known as PPL Therapeutics (Scotland) Ltd. Its US company TransPharm became PPL Therapeutics Inc. PPL Therapeutics plc began trading publicly on the London Stock Exchange in 1996. Due to regulations at the time, Roslin was not allowed to be an equity partner in the venture, but instead received royalties from the commercialised technology.
