Biographical / Historical

This project was collaborative beetween IAPGR-ERS, the East of Scotland College of Agriculture and the University of Reading, and was sponsored by MAFF, the Meat and Livestock Commission and the Milk Marketing Board. The project aimed to apply and develop animal breeding theory for ruminant livestock to encompass new population structures arising from emerging new technology. It aimed to produce a computer program for estimating and optimising the rate of genetic improvement and inbreeding for given future population structures, and to conduct a socio-economic assessment of strategies identified as being genetically sound.
