Biographical / Historical
The Student was founded by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1887, making it the UK's oldest student newspaper. It began in magazine format, published weekly by the Students' Representative Council, and continued in that format until the late 1940s.
In 1958, it was published in newspaper format and control of it moved to the independent Edinburgh University Student Publications Board. It continues to be produced weekly during term time.
