Administrative/Biographical History
Class cards were issued to students of the University of Edinburgh as means of certifying both attendence and performance at specific classes. In style they varied from entirely textual to highly decorated. In the period before the formal degree course as known today, these were the only means of demonstrating what a student had accomplished: it was frequent, for numerous reasons, for students to simply pick and attend certain classes.
