Scope and Contents
Devotional volume in Latin and Dutch dated 1555, written possibly for a religious community in the diocese of Bruges.
Contents
- ff. 1r-11v: Calendar in red and black, probably of the Bruges area. Entries in red include SS. Basilius ( 14 June), Eligius (25 June and I Dec.), Egidius ( l Sept.) and Donatianus (14 Oct.). F.12 blank.
- ff. 13r-14r: St John I. 1-14 and prayers.
- ff. 14v-26r: Penitential psalms and litany.
- ff. 26r-8r: Psalm 70 and prayers. The subjects include 'benefactoribus nostris' and 'fratribus nostris absentibus'.
- ff. 29r-48r: 'Hier beghint een weerdich Pater noster.' Devotions on the Lord's Prayer.
- ff. 48v-56r: Prayer of St Ambrose on the articles of the Passion and other devotions.
- ff. 56v-66r: Obsecro te and O intemerata in Dutch, followed by other prayers to the Virgin.
- ff. 67r-97r: Prayers, mostly to be said at Communion. They include the four points of St Denis, inc. 'Oat eerste es dat die mensche zal zijn ontschuldich van alien zonden' (ff. 94r). The date 1555 is written at the end.
- ff. 97v-101r: Further devotions on the Lord's Prayer (incomplete) added in another more cursive hand. Ff. 101 v-103 ruled but blank.
