Scope and Contents
This fonds consists of the lectures notes, photographs and slides of Rev. George Hastie, student at the University of Edinburg in the late 1960s. The lecture notes were taken by Hastie for his MA course at Edinburgh Univertsity between 1967 and 1970. The slides show photographs taken by Hastie in 1966, 1967 and 1968. Also includes a rectorial election leaflet entitled 'The Making of a Rector', printed for the Tom Hutton Campaign in 1968.
1. The lecture notes include a complete set of MA course lectures in English literature 1 and 2, Biblical studies 1 and 2, Psychology, Moral Philosophy, and Botany for the years 1964-1967. There is also a complete set of lectures dated 1967-1970 in Systematic Theology honours course in New College, including Old Testament and New Testament, Ethics, etc.
2. The slides depict:
- a rag day (charities parade) and a rectorial battle that took place in 1967 at Edinburgh University. Rectorial battles were mock battles that took place during rectorial elections, between student supporters of the principal candidates to the rectorship.
- several buildings and areas of the University such as the Appleton Tower, George Square, the Botany Department, and the Drama block, 1967-1968
- New College staff (including Canon Walls, J. B. Torrance, T. F. Torrance, H. Anderson), Greek classes, and one 'New College lamp', c. 1968
