Records of Edinburgh Chile Solidarity Committee

 Fonds
Identifier: Coll-1895

Content Description

This fonds consists of the Records of the Edinburgh Chile Solidarity Committee (c. 1973-1978), with some material relating to the Chile Solidarity Campaign UK-wide. The records of the committee include minutes, correspondence, membership lists, publications, documents relating to the "adoption" of Chilean refugees by the committee, and various printed ephemera used to spread awareness of their campaign and advertise events organised to support the committee. There are also documents relating to the political and economical situation in Chile in general, such as newsletters, newspaper clippings, and copies of the magazines Chile Fights and Chile Hoy.

These records are evidence of the local organisation of the UK-wide support for Chilean democracy and Chilean people after the 1973 coup d'état by Augusto Pinochet. They also give an insight into students' political activities at the University of Edinburgh in the 1970s.
