Biographical / Historical

Playfair studied at the University of Edinburgh, and returned there as Professor of Chemistry in 1858. In 1868, he was elected as the first representative in Parliament of the Universities of St. Andrews and Edinburgh, and he resigned his chair of chemistry in 1869.
