Biographical / Historical
William Carstares was an alumnus of the University, and later the Principal of Edinburgh University from 1703 to 1715.
Carstares studied theology at Utrecht after achieving his Bachelor of Arts at Edinburgh, where he became a life-long advisor and confidant to the Prince of Orange, later King William III of England (William II of Scotland).
