Scope and Contents
Collection of literary papers of Scottish poet Hugh MacDiarmid (pen name of Christopher Murray Grieve), collected by bookseller and book collector Kulgin D. Duval. They include:
- Correspondence with other important figures of the Scottish Renaissance such as Helen Cruickshank and Francis G. Scott, as well as Scottish politician Roland E. Muirhead;
- Manuscripts of individual poems by Hugh MacDiarmid, and galley proofs of Collected Poems;
- Manuscripts and typescripts of essays by Hugh MacDiarmid;
- Manuscripts and typescripts of journalism articles by Hugh MacDiarmid;
- Texts and poems by Hugh MacDiarmid on the artwork of Scottish painter William Johnstone;
- Material relating to published books on Hugh MacDiarmid and his work;
- Manuscripts and typescripts of other texts by Hugh MacDiarmid, including his autobiography Lucky Poet, and his translation of the Swedish book Aniara by Harry Martinson;
- Music settings by Francis G. Scott on text by Hugh MacDiarmid, and a piece dedicated to MacDiarmid by Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji.
