Biographical / Historical
Stewart was an alumnus of the University of Edinburgh, and later became the Professor of Medicine at the University between 1876 and 1900.

Includes an inked inscription in the front flyleaf: "John Thomson. 17 Strathearn Place." Also includes further pencilled inscriptions in front cover consisting of provenance, including that it was presented by [Edin.] Med. on 14th January 1954.
