Scope and Contents

This collection consists of an academic medal and suffragist badges and pins belonging to Margaret Ida Balfour (1866-1945), a Scottish medical doctor and early campaigner for women's medical issues in Great Britain and India.

  1. Silver medal awarded to Margaret Ida Balfour by the Medical College for Women, Edinburgh, for the "Practice of Medicine", "R. W. Philip M.D., F.R.C.P.E. Lecturer", session 1889-1890;
  2. Two National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies metal pins (red, green and white);
  3. Metal pin in the shape of a "W", with a crown above it;
  4. Openable locket with intertwined initials.
