Scope and Contents
This manuscript volume contains notes from lectures on natural history delivered by Professor John Walker at the University of Edinburgh in the early 1780s. Written in a neat italic hand by an unidentified student, the volume is inscribed on the rectos only and includes foliated index leaves at the end.
Subjects covered include hydrography, geology, mineralogy, botany, and meteorology, with the majority of the lectures devoted to meteorology. Topics include unusual weather phenomena, the use of the barometer and thermometer, and hydrography, including the natural history of the ocean.
The volume concludes with the phrase, "the end of the first volume", indicating that it originally formed part of a larger set of lecture notes.

8vo (20.6 cm x 12.6 cm), modern brown morocco with gilt spine, 267 ff. First leaf in volume with paper repair, occasional staining, but otherwise internally clean.
